Victims Lives in Speaker Bass' Hands

Speaker of the Assembly Karen Bass

Speaker of the Assembly Karen Bass

As you now know, Governor Schwarzenegger terminated state funding to domestic violence programs to balance the California budget.

Senator Yee has introduced legislation (SB 662) that will restore $16.3 million in funding to these life-saving programs by using money from the Crime Victim Restitution Fund reserve.  The restitution funds come from criminal payment of fines and penalties, not from taxpayer dollars.

There is strong bipartisan support for SB 662 in both the Assembly and the Senate.  The only thing needed is the support from Speaker Karen Bass to allow the bill to be brought for a vote.

Time is running out!  Speaker Bass MUST act this week so that there is time to bring the bill to a vote before session ends September 11.

MAJOR UPDATE!!- Speaker Bass has moved SB 662 out of Rules Committee so that it can be considered for a vote.
